Emoji legend:

• 🐮 = lab day (work on homework. you have to come to one of these; ideally the one you signed up for, bar exceptional circumstances)
• 🐍 = python tutorial day (bring your laptop; we might code together in class and you should send me your code after)
• 🦄 = advanced topics (solidify topics of the week and think more deeply about them)
• 🐣 = quiz day (no lecture, quiz will be held during lecture)
• Any other emoji = no class; emoji depends on context :)

Grading:

• 30% homeworks (all evenly weighted, due Thursday nights at 10pm)
• 15% final project (due date TBD)
• 20% quizzes (two quizzes Oct14 and Nov13. whichever one you do better on will be worth 12% and the other 8%)
• 25% final exam (date and time TBD)
• 10% class participation (participating in class and submitting wednesday 🐍 code)

Collaboration policy: You are encouraged to collaborate on homework provided you follow the spirit of the 50 ft rule

AI policy: We will occasionally write code using AI together in class. However, AI is not allowed on homeworks and projects, and not recommended when you are practicing coding on your own. There is preliminary evidence that using LLMs from the get-go is really bad for learning how to code as a beginner (1, 2), and perhaps bad for learning in general (3)

Online resources policy: Online resources, such as StackOverflow are also not permitted, for reasons similar to those in the AI policy

Individual tutoring: You can schedule free individual tutoring sessions with a peer tutor here. If you have questions about finding a tutor, please contact Madison Kelsey (mjk5)
